Leo Teemant 1972 – 2013
Leo Teemant, 41, of Provo, Utah passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 09, 2013, with his wife and children by his side and his family close by, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Leo was a loving, caring husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Leo Teemant was born August 17, 1972 in Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of Viljar and Judith (Tryon) Teemant. He graduated from Churchland High School in Portsmouth, VA in 1990 and Brigham Young University in 2010 with dual majors in Math and Economics. He served an LDS mission in Paris, France from 1993 to 1995.
He married Amy Kay Thornton on October 4, 2002 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. The first year of their marriage Leo received rigorous cancer treatments which kept the cancer away for eight years. They have three beautiful children, Maya Marie (age 8), Tyler Lee (age 6) and Levi Truman (age 3). He loved spending time with his family playing games, working on projects, teaching them and sharing his love for the gospel. He enjoyed telling others about his children and their experiences. His love for family was broad and he often organized extended family gatherings, where he could enjoy sharing time with those he loved.
Beyond his family, he is known by many as a teacher, counselor and confidant. Leo had a caring heart that was immediately evident to all who met him. He was well respected by those who knew him. He taught by example, selflessly thinking of others and willing to share everything. He found joy in helping others in need and at the same time would make them feel understood and loved.
During Leo’s ten year career at Novell, he managed a large team for several of those years and received Employee of the Year in 1999 and 2003. He enjoyed the last few years of his career working on proprietary software with his brother, Merrill. He was a fantastic chess player, reaching the finals in the Utah Corporate Games, and was an avid ping pong player, volleyball player and musician. He served in 3 different bishoprics in his church, as well as having many other callings of service throughout his life.
Leo is survived by his wife Amy Kay and three children, Maya Marie (age 8), Tyler Lee (age 6) and Levi Truman (age 3), Parents, Viljar and Judith (Tryon), Parents in law Arland and Shirley Thornton, Siblings, Valja Lerdahl (Dave), Rae Moore (Jim), Merrill (Nichole), Joel (Melissa), Karl (Jen), Boyd (Carla), Ross (Joanna), Katy Reinwand (Mack), Sara Call (Cameron), Clark (Edith) and many nieces and nephews.
We express our heartfelt thanks to all who have so generously given service, love and prayers to the family. The many thoughtful and caring acts of kindness are deeply appreciated. The power of the many prayers offered have been felt.
